the layout of the capitals had been pre-established?

Were the capitals collocated by chance, on the summit of the 24 columns and pillars along the nave, or were they placed there according to some particular design in relation to the spiritual itinerary of the homo viator? We have seen for example, that the capital portraying Daniel in the Lion’s den – sign of the risen Christ – is placed exactly in that position where the major flow of energy abounds. How is it, that on the opposite capital, a man and some animals have been depicted, whereas all the other capitals up unto the presbytery exhibit only foliage motifs? And why is it, that, on the left of the altar one capital has a centaur sculptured on it, to be faced by one with an eagle sculptured on it? And what if this collocation should hide a purport yet undiscovered? A spiritual itinerary, and a world of music and notes! Which mysteries do the walls of Sant’Antimo still retain?
