
It could well be that this sculpture in alabaster was executed by a local artist. It cannot be placed on the same artistic level as that of the capitals found in the church, but does not lack a particular fineness. It seems to have been part of a pergula i.e. an internal architectonic division in the church (Sant’Antimo III cf. no. 30). It was put into the bell tower at an unknown date. It represents the Virgin with the four Evangelists. To recall somewhat its original position, the ambo has been embellished with a cast of it.
