The experts retain that this sculpture in white marble probably came from a Roman villa. At first the cornucopia was thought to be the horn of the goat Amalthea, or of the fluvial god Achelaus that had been broken off by Heracles during a battle. Picked up by the Naiades, it was decorated according to the symbol that it was destined to become. It is the emblem of overabundant fortune and of a very copious harvest. It is said that in the point at which this figure fixes its gaze, a great treasure would be hidden.
